The California Department of Public Health
Center for Health Care Quality (CDPH CHCQ)
A Shared Vision
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) works to protect the public's health in the Golden State and helps shape positive health outcomes for individuals, families and communities.
Protecting the Health of all Californians
CDPH public health professionals, researchers, scientists, doctors, nurses, and other staff members have a shared vision to protect and improve the health of all Californians. We are dedicated to public service and passionate about our work and the people and communities we serve and protect.
Licensing and Certification Program
The CHCQ Licensing and Certification (L&C) Program is responsible for regulatory oversight of licensed health care facilities and health care professionals to assess the safety, effectiveness, and quality of health care for all Californians.
Our top priority is to protect patient safety and ensure quality care for all patients and residents of the more than 10,000 health-care facilities we regulate in California. These include general acute care hospitals, home health agencies, hospices, skilled nursing facilities and more than 40 other facility types.
In the L&C program, Health Facilities Evaluator Nurses perform a rewarding and valuable public service to promote and protect the quality of health care provided to Californians of all ages.
